MUSIC

Denbigh’s Music Department delivers a broad and engaging curriculum that builds upon prior knowledge from both year 7 Production Studies and KS2 Music, whilst introducing new, key knowledge and skills in correspondence with the DFE’s national curriculum for music. Students will strive for excellence by learning technical skills such as how to use industry standard music software to create music. Students will look at the ever changing UK music industry and how it has adapted over time with the advancement of technology. Students will learn how to play an array of instruments in a constructive environment including; Djembe, Ukulele, Piano and Acoustic Guitar honing in on key musical theories such as using notation to create and perform original and existing compositions both in ensemble groups and as solo musicians. Students will learn to play with appreciation for style and feel, developing a critical ear for music by engaging with wider-listening examples both current and past. Our music students will also look at music event planning by coming up with their own music festival. At KS4 our year 9 musicians start the year by focusing on an instrument of their choosing. Students spend the year building upon their KS3 knowledge whilst preparing for the BTEC in Music Practise which starts at year 10. Denbigh’s music department has a strong focus on careers both musical (performance based) and industry (business, events and admin) within the UK music industry, offering opportunities to visit local post-16 providers of music courses and trips to businesses in the local Industry (Marshall Amps, Bletchley).

Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything. Plato
