Technology for Learning at Denbigh High School
For over 13 years, Denbigh High School has been at the forefront of educational innovation through our "Technology for Learning" strategy. Our mission is built upon our school vision: “High achievement for all is our shared responsibility.” What began as a local initiative in 2012 has evolved into a comprehensive digital ecosystem that prepares our students to become innovative, international digital citizens.
Technical Proficiency and Digital Character
We are committed to equipping our students with both the practical skills and the ethical mindset required for the digital age. While we encourage technical proficiency to ensure our students are highly skilled users of technology, we also prioritise the development of Digital Character.
We teach our students to evaluate AI and emerging technologies through a values-led framework that prioritises ethical literacy, safeguarding, and bias awareness and includes extra curricular programmes such as Apps For Good. This multiple focus ensures that our learners are not just technically capable, but are responsible citizens ready for an AI-embedded future.
- 1:1 Chromebook Scheme: Originally introduced in 2017, our 1:1 scheme ensures every student across all year groups has "anytime, anywhere" access to learning, providing the essential tools required to meet our high expectations for achievement.
- Inclusive Ecosystem: We maintain a device-agnostic, multi-platform learning environment to ensure equitable access for all learners, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and those who speak English as an additional language (EAL).
Leading the National AI Conversation
At Denbigh, we believe the safe and impactful use of Generative AI is a vital life skill. For the past three years, we have strategically incorporated the careful and considered use of AI across the school to benefit both students and staff.
Our students are not just consumers of technology; they are leaders. Denbigh students recently participated in the DfE’s "Generative AI in Education: Have Your Say" process, and a film they created was shown to world leaders at the government’s AI Summit in January 2026. This work directly supported the development of the DfE’s Generative AI Product Safety Standards.

- Student AI Steering Group: This student-led group contributes to policy reflection, school assemblies, and national discussions on balancing innovation with safeguarding.
- BETT 2026: Our pioneering approach was featured in the Canva keynote at BETT 2026, with students leading discussions at the ExCel Centre in London on digital character and the future of AI in education.
Research, Collaboration and Leadership
Our commitment to sharing expertise and pushing the boundaries of digital pedagogy is a long-standing tradition at Denbigh. During the global pandemic, our school's digital maturity led to us being designated as a DfE EdTech Demonstrator School. In this role, we provided vital leadership and support to schools across the country, helping the wider sector understand how technology can be used to maintain high achievement for all learners.
Today, we have continued this work by collaborating with the University of Glasgow to develop their Digital Citizenship Framework. This partnership ensures our curriculum remains at the cutting edge, allowing our students to tackle the most pressing issues in the digital world including Privacy & Ethics, Bias & Harmful Outputs, Emotional Attachment to AI and Deepfakes & Misinformation.
